Go-Kart Racing is considered the stepping stone to the world
of high-tech automotive racing.
In order to become successful in any field of endeavor,
you must first learn the basic
skills required of the job. There is no better way to
accomplish this in motor
racing than to
start this learning process in the
sport of
Kart Racing and to progress
through the
ranks to higher forms of racing

MTD Karting LLC offers a kart training program
for beginning drivers who are interested in getting involved in
karting or who just want to get the thrill of driving a kart 1
inch off the ground. The Training Programs are held at Firebird
Raceway or at the Phoenix Kart Racing Association (PKRA) track.

ROAD RACING COURSE
Our Road
Race Training Program
is held at Firebird Raceway in conjunction with the Friday and
Saturday ProAutosposrts Event Day.
All sessions are held at the Firebird Raceway East, and West tracks.
Students from 14 years old can try out the Challenge Class and the
Advanced Challenge Class, and students from 16 year olds can get
into the TAG Class. All of the karts are configured with an on board
electric starter.
Classroom Session: The morning classroom session will
introduce the novice driver to the world of karting and get the
driver acclimated to the rules, driving lines, and procedures that
need to be understood before taking to the track.
Track Session No 1: The first 20 minute session is
devoted to understanding the proper driving lines of the track
being used. You will test out the driving lines that were
presented in the classroom by following behind the instructor
Track Session No 2: The second session is devoted to
personalized instruction where needed. More advanced drivers will be
on their own to fine tune their driving skills.
SPRINT TRACK COURSE
Our
Sprint Track Training Program is held at PKRA.
Familiarization Session: A familiarization session will get
the driver acclimated to the rules, driving lines, and
procedures that need to be understood before taking to the
track.
Track Session No 1: The first 20 minute session is
devoted to understanding the proper driving lines of the track
being used. You will test out the driving lines that were
presented in the classroom by following behind the instructor
Track Session No 2 and
Subsequent: The follow on sessions are devoted
to personalized instruction where needed. More advanced drivers will
be on their own to fine tune their driving skills.
Students from 10 years old can try out the Challenge Class and the
Advanced Challenge Class, and students from 16 year olds can get
into the TAG Class. All of the karts are configured with an on board
electric starter.
Individual track sessions can be scheduled during normal PKRA
practice times when other drivers are on the track or group track
sessions can be scheduled for 5 drivers with no other drivers on the
track.

RATES:
Firebird Rates
> ProAutosports Friday 1 Day (Four 20 minute Sessions) $135
Friday or Saturday 1/2 Day (Two 20 minute sessions) $65
Temporary Membership (Insurance)
$20
> All Classes are $90.00 for each
20 minute session for the first Training Day
> The TAG Classes are $125 for each 20 minute session for each
subsequent Training Day
> Fuel/oil cost is
$9.00 per gallon
> Chain Lube cost is $6.00 per day
A $300 damage deposit is provided to MTD Karting LLC before
driving on the track. If no damage is
noted during the sessions, the deposit will be refunded to the
driver. If damage is noted, the full extent
of the damage is the
responsibility of the driver.
PKRA Rates
>
$35 entry fee per person in conjunction with normal practice day
>
Group rates are determined as follows:
* Daylight Hours:
$100 per hour and includes insurance for the first two (2)
drivers and two spectators.
Additional drivers and spectators are $10 per person for
insurance, regardless of membership type.
* Evening Hours: Evening rentals require track
lighting and are $175 per hour with a two hour minimum. If the
lights are on for
only the second hour then the fee is $275 for two hours.
Insurance is the same as above.
* Spectators must sign in and receive a wrist band. The first
two (2) spectators are included. Additional spectators who enter
the Pit or Track are required to pay a $10 insurance fee.
> In the event of rain or some other unforeseen situation a rain
check will be given for the unused time. This will be calculated
in 30 minute increments
> All Classes are $90.00 for each
20 minute session for the first Training Day
> The TAG Classes are $125 for each 20 minute session for each
subsequent Training Day
> Fuel/oil cost is
$9.00 per gallon
> Chain Lube cost is $6.00 per day

DRIVERS APPAREL:
The driver must provide a Snell
approved helmet. A drivers suit is recommended but is not
mandatory at PKRA.
Motorcycle attire or heavy abrasive
clothing may be used. However, due to the higher speeds at
Firebird, a drivers suit is mandatory.
Driving gloves and driving shoes or
tennis shoes are required. A neckbrace will be provided. All
hair must be contained within the helmet.
DAMAGE TO THE KART:
Any damage to the kart during the
event weekend whether it be the fault of the driver or a
competitor is
the responsibility of the driver.
All costs associated with the damage will be assessed and paid
by the driver prior
to leaving the track.
